Junnikkala Oy's own forestry department takes care of our raw material procurement. Our timber procurement is based on long termed, trustful and both contract sides satisfied co-operation with the forest owners. The procurement amount in our stands is very high, which has a lot of economical advantages for both the wood seller and us. The high qualified agents of our forestry department are the links between the Junnikkala sawmill and the forest owners in their areas. Our forestry department is responsible for the continual high quality and the non-stop delivery of the raw material. Our department workers are high motivated and high qualified professionals in the field of forestry. They know about both the cultivation of wood and environmental conditions on the spot. They pay also attention to important steps in the timber transactions and the organisation of the timber procurement. The sawmill's own timber procurement is in the whole over 250.000 m³, which means 160.000 m³ softwood timber (55% pine, 45% fir). The logging is done by specialist partner companies of the sawmill, which fill in the standards of the certificate ISO 9001. Timber raw material is also bought by forestry authorities and other companies. In logging, we use long-term contractor partners who follow the quality assurance and environmental policies of Junnikkala Oy. In addition to that Junnikkala Oy requires that its partners take care of their social sustainability by fulfilling their statutory responsibilities as employers. The biggest part of bought paper wood is further sold and transported to the works of the National Forest and Park Service ("Metsähallitus") by train as well as to UPM-Kymmenen in Pietarsaari and to StoraEnso in Oulu by trucks. The transport distance in average is 100 km, the longest is about 150 km. |
