Forests grow from young trees
The forests in our procurement area are young. Therefore, their growth comes to nearly twice the volume of annual logging. In this way, we contribute to securing diversity of nature and ensuring the growth of forests.
Promotion of local employment
In addition to ensuring the well-being of Finnish forests, it is important for us to understand our responsibility as a local employer. We provide indirect employment for as many as 400 people in Central and Northern Ostrobothnia. Through wood procurement, we pay EUR 50 million in stumpage fees in the area.
Wood procurement from Finnish forests
More than half of the wood we use is procured by our in-house forestry department, directly from forest lands owned by families. The rest is supplied by other forest companies in our area. SWe do not buy wood from areas covered by conservation programmes.
Nearly 90 per cent of the raw material we procure comes from family-owned forest lands in Central and Northern Ostrobothnia. About ten per cent of the wood we use comes from forests of the National Board of Forestry.
Our common future in the forests
In accordance with environment-focused principles, we work to foster the diversity of forests, reduce our consumption of energy and minimise any harmful effects of our operations on the environment.
We apply an ISO 9001 certified quailty-management system and apply an ISO 14001:2004 environmental management system in our wood procurement. Our most important suppliers have similar systems in place, and we expect them to apply the same environment-related principles for the raw material they supply to us.
